Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are used for evaluating the performance of equipment and their trends in Process Units. They are used to monitor maintenance costs and provide the basis for investments in equipment which are identified as poor performers. Examples of these include: Refinery Operating and Maintenance Expense, and Mean Time Between failure (MTBF), Mean Time Between Repair (MTBR) and Cost Per Repair (CPR) for Process Equipment.  Guidance can be provided for designing and implementing a KPI hierarchy which focuses on refinery reliability and maintenance including stewardship of equipment performance.
