Becht is excited to present this ASME Section VIII, Division 1 Pressure Vessel Design course with software training.  Enhance your understanding of ASME Section VIII, Division 1 design rules through five days of intensive training with hands-on problem solving.

Who Should Attend? Individuals involved with the design or inspection of pressure vessels who are looking to gain hands-on experience. This course is intended for beginners, as well as experienced vessel designers and inspectors who would like to update their knowledge of the Code. Some degree of technical background will be helpful, but such individuals are not required to have an Engineering degree or previous work experience in the subject matter.

Key Topics Covered Include: 

  1. ASME Section VIII, Division 1 Scope and Responsibilities
    • Become familiar with the scope of ASME Section VIII, Division 1 as well as users' and manufacturers responsibilities.
  2. General Requirements. Develop a more thorough understanding of the design rules for:
    • Cylinders, dished heads, conical heads, flat covers and opening reinforcement for internal and external pressure
    • External loadings, including wind and seismic
    • Appendix 2 flanges
    • Part UHX tubesheets (brief discussion)
  3. Design Requirements for Welded Vessels
    • Welded joint categories and welded joint types
    • RT and UT examination and joint efficiencies
  4. Material Requirements
    • Postweld heat treatment
    • Impact testing requirements
  5. Introduction to Software Application
    • Menus and defaults
    • Creating models
    • Performing calculations and reveiwing reports
  6. Hands-On 
    • Pressure Vessel Software will be used throughout the course to demonstrate the application of the design rules

Upon completion of this course, you will receive a certificate for attending 38 hours of classroom instruction. 

Please note: It is recommended that participants bring a copy of the ASME Section VIII, Division 1 Code for reference, as this will not be provided by Becht Engineering.
