Judson (Judd) Kuivinen is a seasoned process engineer whose experience is based on his 25 year career at the Toledo, Ohio, refinery of Sunoco, Inc. Selected accomplishments:
Process Design Engineer
Conceived and provided Process Design for a Crude Tower expansion/Jet Treater, including pumps, piping, tray modifications,a Jet Draw and Jet Treater.
Determined problem and provided a design to resolve fouling, TEG loses and decreased capacity with UDEX BTX Plant. Sunoco received patent for his Ion Exchange Unit design.
Conceived, provided process designs and assisted in the start up of the following projects: C4 alkylation expansion (flat acid to emulsion with settler mods), C3 polymerization expansion (quench system, pumps, tower mods), Naphtha Pretreater/Distillation debottleneck (piping, pumps and process control mods), UDEX BTX plant debottleneck (changed process control scheme on the extraction section), Waste Water Sand Filters and PDA bottoms expansion.
Was part of team that developed a long term plan for Refinery expansion.
Advance Process Control Engineer
Implemented and maintained advance control (DMC)for the Hydrocracker/Gas Plant and Crude Units.
Assisted in the implementation and maintained advance control (DMC) for the FCC, FCC Gas Plant, C4 Alkylation Plant, Gasoline Stabilizer and BTX Plant.
Was part of group (3 people) responsible for Refinery Distributed Control System (Honeywell TDC)
FCC Gasoline Blender
Responsible for blending of the various grades of gasoline, set Octane and RVP targets and provided optimization to minimize blending and plant energy costs. Debottlenecked and redesigned blending modules.
Provided Tech service for Hydrocracker, Naphtha Reformers, BTX, Naphtha Pretreater/Distillation, C4 Alkylation, C3 Polymerization, Crude Unit, and FCC Gas Plants. Was certified Board Operator for HCC. Refinery TA support including internal inspections.
Responsible for water quality and Hazardous Waste regulatory compliance.
Mr. Kuivinen is degreed in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, University of Wisconsin.
