Crude Characterization Specialist
Saul C. Blum has over 40 years experience in process engineering, research, and development of petroleum processes, based on his long-term career with ExxonMobil Research and Engineering and with Becht Engineering. His expertise includes the development and troubleshooting of analytical techniques for petroleum processes and products, crude corrosivity, catalyst characterization, crude assay,
fluidized-bed iron ore reduction, shale oil, coal liquefaction, water and air emissions, and fuel cells.
He has applied some of this expertise in support of a number of Becht clients’ projects. Dr. Blum holds a B.Sc. in chemistry (with 1st class honors) and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry, both from McGill University. He was a member of and chaired two of the American Petroleum Institute’s scientific research committees. He holds 22 U.S. patents and several in foreign countries.
