Enhanced QA Prevented Casing Failure
Allis-Chalmers VS-766 Centrifugal Compressor
Becht reviewed a shop scope of work and recommended additional QC hold points to strengthen a repair plan that relied on visual casing inspection with no additional NDE.
The added QA steps uncovered hidden casing damage, improving the repair process and helping prevent failure while keeping the turnaround on schedule.

Accelerating Turnaround Repair Delivery by Five Weeks
Flowserve (Pacific) SPMC OH4
When parts availability caused significant delays in a repair shop’s schedule, the client engaged Becht to help recover lost time. Within 24 hours, the OEM stood up a second shift and parts delivery was moved to a two-person hotshot service. Repair steps were also adjusted to shorten the schedule without compromising quality.
Becht and the OEM worked through weekends and responded quickly to setbacks throughout the repair process. Their coordinated effort brought delivery forward by five weeks.

Spare Parts Review Kept the Repair on Schedule
Cooper-Bessemer JM-4 Reciprocating Compressor
A client sent rebuilt spare pistons to the repair facility with the understanding that they were ready for installation. A Becht SME noticed discrepancies in the assemblies and found that no dimensional datasheet was available. The pistons required further overhaul to match the machine being rebuilt.
Catching these issues before installation avoided a significant delay and kept the repair on schedule. The review also identified a risk of premature failure if the pistons had been installed in their existing condition.

Identifying a Startup Issue Saved Time and Expense
United 3X9 Multistage Centrifugal Compressor
Following a process trip, a boiler feed pump could no longer meet flow and pressure requirements and was removed from service for overhaul. Becht attended the teardown and inspection, quickly determining that the pump was in excellent condition.
Further investigation traced the performance issue to the client’s startup procedure. Identifying the cause helped the client avoid unnecessary expense and lost time while clarifying where the startup procedure needed improvement.

Pinpointing the Cause of a Persistent Pump Leak
Hermetic CNKH 200-320
A leak between a pump and motor plate mirrored a recent failure in a sister pump operating in the same service. Becht traced the problem to asymmetric expansion during thermal cycling, which caused the assembly studs to loosen.
The investigation revealed a deficiency in the pump assembly for the high-temperature application. Becht recommended hardware changes to address the underlying cause and help prevent recurring leaks.
