Case Study – Coker Heater TMT Assessment / Debottlenecking Of Rate To Capture Margin
Situation: Delayed coker heater was the rate limiting component for a fuels refinery due to high tube metal temperature (TMT).
Information: Becht partnered with the client to assist with remote IR thermography analysis and equipment operational adjustments to attempt to lower the high TMT areas.
Action Taken: Multiple IR scans were conducted with Becht experts assisting real time via a Realwear headset to ensure the thermography data collected would allow full remote analysis.
Results: The remote analysis and reporting was successful in confirming the high TMT areas were near the equipment temperature limit.
Opportunities for burner adjustment and test runs were developed with the client and additional Realwear calls in 2021 will continue to leverage these collaboration opportunities to maximize margin from constrained fired equipment.
