Walt is an industry expert in the understanding of the impact of refining environments and how the damage mechanisms affect the many different materials utilized in a typical refinery. Walt has extensive experience in evaluations dealing with sulfidation, wet H2S cracking, HTHA, and the assessment of environment assisted cracking in the refining, chemical production and ethanol plants. He has extensive experience in creating IOW’s, CCD’s and conducting corrosion reviews as part of RBI projects assessments.
With his over 35 years of materials/corrosion/inspection experience, he has been involved in all aspects of materials engineering. Walt has focused primarily on understanding the operational effects of processing High Tan/High Sulfur (Canadian) and Low Tan/Low Sulfur (Shale Crudes) in refineries, and has also worked with petrochemical and with Ethanol producing facilities. For 19 years he worked for Flint Hills Resources and finished his career there as the Global Corrosion and Material Leader for FHR in July 2014.
Walt started his career in Canada after graduating with a degree Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1974. In 1992, Walt relocated to the US with his wife and family to continue his career.
