Bad Actor – WHB Vibration
Client had a 950,000 lb/hr WHB with significant vibration that was causing leaks and limiting process through-put.
Becht conducted vibration monitoring and analysis and determined the root cause of the vibration as poor flow design and lack of structural rigidity.
Becht developed new design details and tested them with coupled CFD/mechanical analysis to ensure the vibration would be eliminated. Then Becht assisted with oversight of the modifications.
Becht developed low cost design improvements which eliminated the vibration and helped the client avoid running with limited process through-put or having to procure a new WHB (>$30 million USD cost savings).
