Impetus for Current OSHA PSM Regulations in New Netflix Series

Netflix recently released “The Railway Men – The Untold Story Of Bhopal 1984” which is based on the horrific tragedy killing so many and drove regulatory change to improve safety for the handling of highly hazardous chemicals.

In particular, this incident lead to OSHA’s addition of part 119 to 29 CFR 1910 in 1992 (https://www.osha.gov/laws-regs/federalregister/1992-02-24) that includes numerous parts to cover activities so many of us support or execute on a daily basis.  One example is part (d) for Process Safety Information which requires equipment be designed & documented in accordance with Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) (https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-29/subtitle-B/chapter-XVII/part-1910/subpart-H/section-1910.119).

This addition then drove the initiative for organizations to develop and improve their corporate engineering practices.  These collections require on-going efforts to maintain alignment with changing RAGAGEP which is why Becht has developed the BechtPractices.  Not only are the BechtPractices maintained to ensure compliance with RAGAGEP, but we have integrated current technologies for data management to most efficiently communicate only applicable requirements for each asset design resulting in advanced project excellence through improved quality and efficiency, saving organizations money while improving safety and reliability.

Learn more about the BechtPractices here (https://becht.com/software-tools/bechtpractices/) and how we can help your organization improve how engineering practices are managed, used, and maintained.
