Nick Mangiapane
Nick Mangiapane has been in the power and refining industry since 2010. He began his career with Acuren Inspection where he generated 3D CAD drawings for clients in the power generation industry supporting outage efforts across the US for clients such as RRI Energy and GenOn. He developed into a project manager and PMI technician where he began to roll-out PMI programs into existing refineries like Exxon Mobil and Tesoro. He quickly picked up certifications in CWI, API 510, 570, 653, 571, 580 & NBIC endorsement. He earned a visual inspector role with TUV SUD America where he supported routine and turnaround work for Exxon Mobil Torrance and, later, Valero Wilmington.
While supporting in a lead role at Valero, he functioned as Unit Inspector over the Asphalt Plant before hiring into Valero as a Senior Refinery Inspector. In this role, he managed PCMS and turnaround activities as well as developed inspection policies such as Threaded Connections, Deadlegs & Composite Tank Inspections. He developed a WPS for the site’s HF Alky unit to weld Alloy 400 with PWHT and developed the site’s continuity log for welding processes and structured the log to comply with ASME IX lot requirements. In addition, he designed and executed inspection plans targeting a wide range of unique concerns such as Naphthenic Acid Corrosion, Sulfidation, Lean and Rich Amine HSAS, as well as Power Boilers.
In this position, Mr. Mangiapane supported priority on-call work responsibilities that lead him to manage Coke Drum crack repairs, Boiler leaks, and various other repairs requiring inspection, welding or leak repair devices. This progressed him to the assignment of Reliability Engineer where he reviewed and approved leak repair devices by verifying calculations per ASME PCC-1, PCC-2 and Roark formulas for stress and strain. In this capacity he developed detailed cause maps, supported failure analyses and modeled piping systems with CAESAR II as well as equipment with COMPRESS for updating thickness minimum requirements.
Simultaneously, over a period of 6 years, he led the DMR project for all units at Valero Wilmington and was an administrator managing corrosion IOW limits for the site using Unit Health Monitoring. These responsibilities drove him to develop intimate knowledge with PHD, PI and LIMS data as well as IntelaTrac and LabVantage. Through a science- based approach, he created unique and dynamic IOWs for the site and worked closely with third party vendors such as INEOS, SUEZ and BakerHughes.
Mr. Mangiapane earned his BS in Civil Engineering from California State University, Fullerton and is supported by his AA in Business Administration.
Mr. Mangiapane is based in Los Alamitos, CA.
