Outside of work, Roberto enjoys travel, spending quality time with his family, and experiencing different cultures. He has lived in three countries and values the diverse perspectives that come from immersing himself in new environments.
The Becht Team

Roberto Soares
Group Lead, Applied Mechanics
Roberto Soares is the Applied Mechanics Group Lead at Becht, bringing over 15 years of experience in structural design, finite element analysis (FEA), and software development across the mining, pavement, and energy industries.
He has led and delivered end-to-end engineering projects, integrating field data such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), LiDAR, and Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) into structural modeling, constitutive analysis, and geotechnical evaluation. He holds a patent for a multiscale computational method that predicts pavement failure based on material properties, load inputs, and internal structure.
Roberto has developed FEM-based engineering software using C#, .NET, and Fortran, featuring custom geometry, nonlinear material modeling, 3D meshing, solver integration, results visualization, and built-in QA/QC systems. His tools combine robust analysis with intuitive user interfaces, streamlining workflows and enhancing project delivery.
He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Universidade Federal do Ceará, Brazil. He is fluent in English and Portuguese, and proficient in Spanish.
