The Becht Team
Melissa Guerra
Melissa Guerra is an experienced Mechanical Integrity Specialist who has a strong working background in developing and evergreening work processes around routine inspection planning, risk-based inspection deployment, integrity operating window development, and maintenance/compliance discipline around PRDs.
She was on a corporate team that developed work processes for RBI and IOWs, then acted as the working implementation lead at a large, fully integrated refinery. Ms. Guerra has expertise in coordinating corrosion studies, identifying damage mechanisms and developing inspection plans based on RBI business rules.
As a field inspector for a major refiner, Ms. Guerra has worked through the full workflow of transitioning a process unit from a time-based inspection strategy to a risk-based approach. This included scope definition for turnarounds, data capture to meet business rules during turnarounds, and criticality revision, to update intervals for inspection tasks. Her skillset also includes applying mitigation to high probability equipment and evaluating when upgrades may provide the best life cycle outcome.
Her experience also includes a strong background in performing gap analysis of PRD practices, developing sustainable work processes, and integrating them into maintenance systems. Her efforts led to the reduction of PRD associated compliance gaps to functionally nil, when implemented. Through experience she learned the need to include operations, maintenance, inspection, and service contractors to ensure ever-greening of PRD work processes. The knowledge gained through these exercises was summarized in a recent Inspectioneering article.
Ms. Guerra is also an expert in Information Data Management Systems (IDMS) and Reliability and Maintenance Data Systems, such as Meridium, Maximo and RBMI.
Ms. Guerra worked for over 10 years at Chevron’s El Segundo Refinery and has experience in Asset Information Management and Mechanical Integrity.
For the past four years, Ms. Guerra fully built and implemented a functional Mechanical Integrity and Reliability Preventative Maintenance Program for Kern Energy’s Refinery and Pipelines.
She holds API-510/570 and RBMI Risk Analyst certification and has formal training in API-571, NACE Corrosion Courses, and damage mechanism application for several process technologies.
