The Becht Team

Seth Tate
Seth Tate has over 18 years of experience in equipment maintenance, reliability, and technology solutions. As an owner/user engineer, Seth performed duties such as FEED studies, FEL studies, root cause analysis, development of asset specifications, overlays, condition monitoring policies, performance analysis, and turnaround engineering scope. Seth also has extensive experience in API 610 pump and API 682 mechanical seal design, repair, and troubleshooting.
- Mechanical seal and seal support system design engineer focused on refining, petrochem, pipeline, and chemical process. Create engineering drawings and documentation. Perform seal and system engineering calculations, hydraulics, material compatibility, thermal and pressure distortion, etc.
- Advanced engineering support for Pipeline Operations. Develop operating narrative, review and recommend changes to control narrative, monitor control room operations during commissioning, review startup telemetry and recommend procedural changes for equipment health and simplicity.
- Drive integration of field diagnostics into the deeper analytic solutions Company digital solutions team. Develop new discrete diagnostic tools take advantage of remote monitoring and digital platforms.
- Reliability engineering lead for refinery complex. Facilitate and investigate all mechanical and rotating failures. Provide risk mitigation procedures, maintenance procedures, and assign duties as necessary.
- Small project management and engineering – FEL1/2 multi-discipline project teams during project planning and execution.
- Mechanical Reliability – Engineering design policies, fitness-for-service evaluation, code calculations, vessel rerates, online leak repair, continuous improvement studies, ROI analysis.
- Implement risk-based programs such as equipment criticality audits, spare parts inventory policies by criticality, ROTO spare absence mitigation, pump commissioning inspection, and online leak repair process, flange torqueing procedures.
- Rotating Equipment Team Leader (liquids pipeline) – 4 person team, direct; 20 person team, indirect. Delegate assignments to team members, assist team member development, evaluate team activities, and prioritize.
- Principle liquid pipeline rotating equipment engineer and Subject Matter Expert for all projects, root-cause-analysis, and continuous improvements.
- Develop complete portfolio of liquid rotating equipment specifications, guidelines, and checklists.
- Support FEL and FEED budgetary and design goals. Review project business case, planning and execution for correctness and completeness. Provide first cost, lifecycle cost and risk analysis on major projects design options.
- Preventative maintenance program –baseline maintenance program, equipment specific library, application specific library, and regulatory guidance.
- Predictive maintenance programs – vibration analysis, oil analysis, condition threshold and exception reporting.
- Corporate Metrics – availability, MTBF, schedule compliance, PM compliance, PM effectiveness
