John Sulek
Senior CAD Specialist
John Sulek has over 35 years of experience in power plant arrangement and software administration and support. Mr. Sulek has also added on the role as a Piping Standards Technical Advisor. Primary focus for power plant arrangement has been with environment products associated to the power plants. Primary focus on the software administration and support has been with 2D and 3D tools, like Autodesk AutoCAD, Aveva PDMS, and Intergraph SmartPlant, including the training and customization of these tools. Additional focus has been applied to the direct or indirect inter-operability of these tools with other engineering tools, both internally and externally located. Primary focus on being a Piping Standards Technical Advisor has been the harmonization of pipe specifications and adherence of component offerings within pipe specifications compared to established industry standards. Mr. Sulek’s primary objective is to help people solve problems.
Mr. Sulek’s plant layout experience includes conceptual piping and equipment layout in the bid phase, and the general arrangement and design arrangement aspects of the contract phase. Types of components arranged include piping systems, flue/duct work, large designed pieces of equipment and small commercially available equipment. Mr. Sulek’s software experience includes license administration, working with the Information Technology department, internal software stakeholders and external vendors to establish bet fit license arrangements. Mr. Sulek’s software experience also includes the initial setup and configuration, the administration, and the customization of software to suit the end user’s needs and workflows, with an emphasis on streamlining workflows to make the end user and the tool itself more efficient. Mr. Sulek has also provided software training for new and advanced users in the Aveva PDMS/E3D software set. Mr. Sulek’s plant layout experience, coupled with his modeling and administration experience with 3D modeling software such as Aveva PDMS/E3D, has also provided Mr. Sulek with a technical understanding of pipe specification structure and needs. This technical understanding allows for viewing pipe specifications from a developer’s perspective as well as from an end user’s perspective, striving for usefulness and readability from each.
Mr. Sulek’s dual role as plant layout designer and software administrator provide him with the unique insights. These insights provide an understanding into the needs of one role and the limitations of the other role. This understanding leads to finding the most efficient method possible to meet the needs of the internal and external customer.
Mr. Sulek holds an Associates of Drafting Technology degree from Akron University, Akron, OH.
