James B. McNeely has over 30 years experience in the engineering development and marketing of high-technology materials and chemical processes, in the photovoltaic, semiconductor, and laser industries. He is skilled in the preparation of business documentation requisite for procurement of resources and/or funds for the development, marketing, and manufacturing of commercial products and innovative processes. Technical Management, AstroPower, Inc., Newark, Delaware

  • Initiate, prepare proposal, market and manage 19 process and product development contracts including:
    • High-efficiency solar cell development
    • Optoelectronic detector/sensors and integrated circuits
    • High temperature contact/metallization
    • Surrogate III-V semiconducting materials
  • Pioneer tandem solar cell program at AstroPower, being used today for space solar power applications
  • Develop silicon and III-V raw materials for the AstroPower commercial photovoltaic manufacturing operation
  • Provide key technical, concurrent engineering, procurement, production, safety, quality and administrative support in the growth of the company from two employees in May 1983 to over 750 in 2002

  • Market semiconductor lasers, LED's and sensors including fiber optic communications, instrumentation, sensors, electronic countermeasures, and solar cells
  • Manage production, sales, and profitability of the high purity, single crystal GaAs line

Manager, Crystal Products Department, Allied Chemical Corporation, Morristown, New Jersey

  • Manage R&D program development and marketing of advanced laser materials (large-diameter YAG, lanthanum beryllate, and alexanderite tunable solid-state lasers)
  • Establish synthetic laser and magnetic garnet laboratory for product and process development support for commercial crystal products facility in Charlotte, NC (now SYNOPTICS, world's largest producer of synthetic laser materials).

Mr. McNeely holds a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, an M.A. in Solid State Chemistry from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has published 36 Technical Articles, and holds 3 Patents.
